Surprisingly, Derek didn’t show much of an interest in Magic as a youngster.
Of course, he had the obligatory ‘Uncle’ who had a trick or two up his sleeve, so to speak, and like most of the kids from his generation, Derek was enthralled by the likes of David Nixon, Ali Bongo, Tommy Cooper, and Paul Daniels, to name but a few.
Derek’s interest was only sparked off in 2004, when he ran into an old friend whom he hadn’t seen for a few years.
It was this friend that introduced Derek to a Magic Dealer at a local Market.
Having been shown a couple of ‘Effects’ by the dealer, Derek was hooked.
After paying for a few ‘Packet’ Tricks etc, Derek went home and practiced for hours on end, and hasn’t really looked back.
To gain experience, Derek could be seen most Friday and Saturday evenings in his Local Bars, entertaining the crowds with his new-found skills. This held him in good stead, as it wasn’t long before he was known locally as ‘Magic Man’.
In 2005, Derek was invited to join Kirkcaldy Magic Circle, and has ‘Blossomed’ since passing his audition.
Derek has become a well respected Magician to both friends and family, and has been praised for his talents by all that he has had the pleasure for working with, whether it be a 12 year old at a Birthday Party, his Colleagues at work, or the Bride & Groom at a Wedding.
